| DESCRIPTION This excursion follows the events of ancient people coming from the sea and devoted to the commercial trade with the inland people. In fact during the tour we will examine the presence of some marks indicating an old road probably used for the trade of the salt and the wheat (the so called “Road of Wheat and Salt”) and to bring into contact two of the most important Greek colonies: Poseidon (today Peastum) and and Yele (the present Elea, Velia).We will see, moreover, that the origin of the soil is sandy, and the sandstone was probably the material used to build the temples, the basilica and all the imposing buildings that we can still admire in Paestum: the square blocks of sandstone that surround the temples are a clear and an evident proof of this. In the ancient times “Punta Tresino” (Cape Tresino) was a point of reference for the ships and one of the first settlements linked to the colonization and the requirements of trade. |
